"Don't worry about all those stars you are seeing,
they're just angels coming to help you with the jerk." - Greg Everett
Olympic weightlifting is a sport where athletes compete in two lifts: the snatch (one motion, ground to overhead) and the clean and jerk (two steps, ground to shoulders, then overhead). Three attempts per lift; best weights total to determine winners by weight class. Strength and skill rule.
Two Lifts – Athletes compete in snatch and clean & jerk.
Three Attempts Each – They get three tries per lift, and their best successful attempt counts.
Weight Classes – Men and women compete in different bodyweight categories.
Total Score – The highest snatch and clean & jerk are added for a final total. The highest total wins.
Judging – Three referees decide if a lift is good (white light) or failed (red light).
Competition Levels – Events happen at local, state, and national levels, with top athletes moving to international competitions.
Our coaches are experienced in working with athletes in the lead up to and throughout competition day. They will help warm you up, determine weights and navigate the finer details of the competition days with you.
When programmed well, and completed with proper technique and training, Olympic weightlifting offers numerous benefits, including:
No prior experience? No problem! Our coaches work with lifters of all levels—from complete beginners who have never touched a barbell to seasoned competitors looking to refine their technique.
While competition age categories typically start from Under 15s and go all the way to Masters, competing is completely optional. Many of our lifters train simply for the love of the sport, enjoying the challenge, strength, and skill that Olympic Weightlifting brings.
Whether you’re here to compete or just to lift, we’re here to support your journey!
Contact our team to book in! We begin with a check-in to discuss your fitness background, past injuries, and current training goals. This helps our coaches determine the best program for you.
Depending on your experience, you'll start with either a 1:1 session or join our group classes. Group training is a great way to experience the sport firsthand, meet other lifters, and get familiar with the gym.
Once your program is set up, you’ll attend our coached Olympic Weightlifting sessions. We ask all new lifters to start in these sessions so our coaches can teach the fundamental movements, proper technique, and accessory exercises—ensuring you lift safely and confidently.
After that, you’ll be part of the crew! We’ll go over the finer details, like open gym access, check-ins, and ongoing support, to keep you progressing.
